"ONE NIGHT. ONE DIAMOND" EVENT BENEFITS NEWBORNS - Keeping Babies Healthy, Warm and Safe

Watertown, NY - Every newborn baby born at Samaritan Medical Center is pampered from the minute they enter the world. From the doctors and nurses welcoming the babies upon delivery to the day they go home as the family's newest addition, newborns receive a lot of attention and love. Though nothing could compare to the warmth of mom's womb, nurses have specialized equipment to keep baby warm and content after delivery.

Infant warmers are used in each of the 1,600+ births at Samaritan Medical Center. The GE Panda Infant Warmers are the newest types of warmers and have many benefits for baby, mom and nurses, including in-bed monitoring of the baby's blood oxygen levels and heart rate. This warmer enables baby's very first weight to be taken right in the delivery room at mom's side so that the parents can share in this special moment.

"The birth of a baby is one of life's most memorable moments, and this new technology helps to make the experience even better for baby, mom and caregivers," explains Irene Carman, "One Night, One Diamond" Event Chair. "Though important in keeping healthy babies healthy, the GE Panda Infant Warmers can easily be adapted with other equipment for infants who need specialized care. For Samaritan Auxiliary volunteers, it is a privilege to be able to provide moms and babies with the best care possible utilizing this technologically advanced system that is made possible through the generous support of so many from the community and beyond."
